Feb 28 - March 5, 2010 Pittcon 2010 - Orlando, FL

Pittcon 2010 will be held on February 28 - March 5 at Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida.
During 2009, Chicago PittCon following SQL*LIMS abstracts have been presented.
Networking Sessions during PittCon 2009:
• You have spent millions getting the data into a database – now what?
• Can a LIMS vendor fully validate its software?
Oral Abstracts during PittCon 2009:
• Stability Analytics - Shelf life or stability studies are a critical part of many product production lifecycles but the analysis of the data produced is often difficult and requires the involvement of multiple people, departments and disciplines from the analytical lab, various quality groups and statisticians. We will discuss how changes in the general workflow from Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to the data analysis packages can simplify the overall process. We will review some of the existing data exchange options and how these can be modified to increase the response time of stability results, streamline validation issues, reduce errors and decrease total IT costs. We will also review the latest statistical analysis techniques available for the pooling of stability studies including regression analysis, calculation of expiry dates and ANCOVA analysis.
• LIMS Validation, Is There Another Way? - As pressures increase to reduce implementation costs and time as well as lowering the total cost of ownership, has the time come to take a serious look at accepting vendor supplied validation suites? If so, how far can one go? With most vendors now providing IQ and OQ execution scripts, what about PQ, SOP’s and life cycle documentation? What level of vendor oversight would be necessary? What roles should the vendor and client take? Let’s get together discuss and outline how this can be accomplished.
• LIMS and Enviornmental Monitoring, Why Has This Been So Difficult To Accomplish? - Time and time again as a clients implement a LIMS or migrates to a new version, the microbiology laboratory and EM testing needs are left out. Why? What is missing from a traditional LIMS that fails to meet microbiology and EM needs? Are the traditional workflows met by more traditional labs so different to the needs of a micro lab? How about an active discussion to outline micro and EM specific needs, unique workflows and expectations so LIMS vendors can finally provide an acceptable solution?
• How Do You Measure Your Measurements - As laboratories constantly strive to do more with less, they must develop metrics for their productivity and control the changes in these metrics. The development and management of these Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are key functions for pro-active management of a successful laboratory. We will examine the ways in which data stored in a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) can be used, when correctly presented, to give a laboratory manager a near real-time view of the KPI's that show the effectiveness of the laboratory, it's staff and processes.
• How COTS is your LIMS? -The degree of ‘COTS-ness’ can have a significant effect on the laboratory’s selection of a LIMS system, especially when the LIMS is used as a strategy to comply with ISO 17025 (Laboratory Quality Systems and Accreditation). The author will discuss the parameters for COTS that should be examined when selecting a vendor package; the implications as to the amount of work the implementation will be, the amount of validation required and the documentation that must be assembled.
• Exception Management as an Aspect of ISO 17025 (March 12th - 3:25 pm, Room S501D) - ISO 17025 expands quality concepts (like ISO 9001) into the laboratory organization. Laboratory Information Systems can help a great deal in assuring compliance to ISO 17025. The authors will discuss the LIMS role in management of Out of Target, Out of Trend, Out of Specification and exception event handling.
• Vendor Provided Validation for LIMS - What Does it Mean to the Customer? -
In order to assure regulatory compliance and reduce the validation workload, vendors of systems (including LIMS) can provide testing evidence of their software packages and even a ‘validation suite or kit’ that the customer can use to execute their validation.
The authors will examine the requirements, parameters and utility behind vendor testing and what it means to the customer. For example, a validation kit will have limited applicability for a highly customized system and as such will need significant enhancement and change to be useful.
March 16 - 18, 2010 SmartLab Exchange - Brussels, Belgium

Driving Lab efficiency through SMART informatics strategy.
The SmartLab Exchange unites leading informatics, research and development and quality control systems specialists to analyse strategies for driving lab efficiency, enhancing knowledge sharing and accessing information company-wide. Expert speakers from leading organisations in the pharmaceutical, FMCG, cosmetic and chemical industries will provide you with multiple examples of best practice.
Presentation: Homogenous requirements in a heterogeneous environment!
Outline: Technology is changing faster than you can implement corporate wide data management systems. In many multisite implementations people think they have unique requirements, but with a focus on standard best practice business processes they often will conclude that their workflows are more similar than they thought. In this presentation you will learn new approaches to harmonize business processes which can lead to an increase in implementation speed and a corresponding decrease in deployment costs.
